Dr. Dominika Steakley
DVM
Education: Texas A&M University
Pets: Riley (Shepherd Mix), Yoshi (Dachshund Mix), Bowser and Jeffrey (Cats)
Dr. Steakley joined Kainer Veterinary Hospital in March of 2015. Her family, originally from Poland, came to the United States in 1981 and moved to The Woodlands in 1988. Her love of animals was apparent at an early age, decorating her room with every animal photo she could cut out of her father’s National Geographic magazine when he wasn’t looking. One day while rummaging through the mail, she found an advertisement for horseback riding lessons. She spent the next 8 years learning to ride and competing in horse shows. She even convinced her parents to drive her to the Houston Humane Society with barn cats to be spayed and neutered. At the price of $10 per cat, she payed for the surgeries herself and let them recover in her bedroom before releasing them back to the barn.
Dr. Steakley attended Texas A&M for her undergraduate studies in Biomedical Science while working part time for the Texas A&M Large Animal Clinic and Small Animal GI Lab. She was accepted into the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M after two years of undergraduate work. After receiving her medical degree in 2003, she took a position at a small animal clinic in Dallas, Love Field Pet Hospital, where she worked for six years. Then in 2009 she moved to Springville, Alabama with her husband Roger, who was born and raised in Gadsden, Al. She took a position at Riverview Animal Clinic in Birmingham and worked there for the next 5 years. In August of 2010, they had their first child, Alexander Steakley.
In 2014, Dr. Steakley was homesick for Texas, and relocated her family back to the Spring area. She has a Doberman/Shepherd mix named Riley born in a cemetery in Birmingham, and a Dachshund/shepherd mix named Yoshi who was adopted from Operation Pets Alive in The Woodlands. Dr. Steakley is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Animal Hospital Association. She looks forward to a long future serving all of her clients in the community and their 4-legged family members. She plans on never leaving Texas again!
